Rose Hip Seed Oil
Rosa Canina
Rosehip seed oil is derived from the seeds of the rosehip fruit, which is the fruit of the wild rose plant. It is obtained through a process of cold-pressing the seeds to extract the oil.
Chemically, rosehip seed oil is composed of various compounds that contribute to its properties and benefits. It is rich in essential fatty acids, including linoleic acid (omega-6 fatty acid) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3 fatty acid). These fatty acids are known to have moisturizing and anti-inflammatory effects on the skin.
Rosehip seed oil is also a good source of vitamins, particularly vitamin A and vitamin C. Vitamin A, in the form of beta-carotene, is a precursor to retinol, a compound known for its skin-regenerating properties. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps protect the skin from free radicals and supports collagen production.
Additionally, rosehip seed oil contains other bioactive compounds such as tocopherols (vitamin E), carotenoids, and phytosterols. These compounds contribute to the oil’s antioxidant, anti-aging, and skin-nourishing properties.
