Amyris Oil
Amyris Balsamifera
Amyris oil is extracted from the wood of the Amyris balsamifera tree through a process called steam distillation. The source material for extraction is typically the mature wood of the tree, which is chipped or ground into smaller pieces to increase the surface area. The wood chips or ground wood are then subjected to steam distillation, where steam is passed through the material. This steam causes the volatile components, including the essential oil, to vaporize. The vapor containing the essential oil is then cooled and condensed, resulting in a mixture of water and essential oil.
Chemically, Amyris oil is composed mainly of sesquiterpenes, including beta-eudesmol, valerianol, and elemol. These compounds contribute to the oil’s characteristic scent and therapeutic properties.
Amyris oil possesses a range of beneficial properties, including being antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and sedative. It is commonly used in aromatherapy as a relaxant and to alleviate stress and anxiety. Its calming properties make it useful in promoting sleep and reducing insomnia symptoms.
